Mobile Series: Submissions From the Student Point of View

Students and instructors who use Canvas Mobile Apps need to know how to move documents and media files from their mobile apps into Canvas for their assignment submissions. This session will address the four of the most common assignment workflows from the student's point of view so teachers can provide better instruction and assistance.

Peering Inside Peer Reviews

Graded discussions and graded assignments can easily function as peer review assignments. Yay! Yet, ambiguity exists surrounding what you can and can't do with the peer review tool. Boo! These sessions will dive deeper into the peer review tool and shed some light into designing effective peer reviews in Canvas.

What are the default student notification settings in Canvas?

By default, students will have the following items immediately sent to their default email by default unless they manually adjust them:

• Announcements

• Grade entered/changed including the grade weight changed

• Invitation to a group or organization

• New inbox messages

• Appointment changes

• Discussion notifications are handled via subscription within the Discussion area (see here)

Walk in Canvas hours available on Mondays

Thanks to the Division of IT, we have a trained undergraduate student now who will be able to help us exclusively with Canvas related issues.  She will be here Mondays from 11am-3pm.  What can she help you with?  Here are some examples:

Teaching this summer?

• All courses for the summer have already been added to Canvas. You do not need to request a space.
  
• Students are added to your course space within 24 hours after enrollment. If you are finding that there is a discrepancy, please let me know.
  
• You can add people temporarily (Designer, Observer and Student two week pass) by logging into the ELMS management tool at www.elms.umd.edu and clicking on "Manage Enrollments".

Instructure Canvas support staff are available 24/7 either by calling 877-399-4090 or by clicking on the Help link after you log into elms.umd.edu. From there you can elect to "Chat with Canvas Support" or to "Report a Problem". Canvas staff cannot help with enrollment issues so you will need to contact me or elms@umd.edu to report the problem.
