The goal of LangMedia is to provide examples of authentic language spoken in its natural cultural environment so that students of all ages can better understand the interplay between a language and its culture. International students shot most of the video in their home countries using handheld camcorders and microphones provided by the Center. The video and audio quality varies. Most of the transcripts and translations were prepared by the same students who filmed the video, although in some cases the transcripts have also been edited by a language expert.

The ViewPoints Project is a growing collection of foreign language video clips in which native speakers elaborate on a wide variety of topics about their culture, family, daily life, and more. Each video is accompanied by a description of its contents, the country of the speaker, and additional grammar and vocabulary notes. Videos are available in QuickTime format.

Faculty and students at all levels are encouraged to contribute materials to their searchable, online database. The focus of the REALIA Project is realia: Materials which convey the everyday life of different cultures.

  • The Language Materials Project for Less Commonly Taught Languages

The UCLA Language Materials Project (LMP) is an on-line bibliographic database of teaching and learning materials for over 100 Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs). The LMP, which is funded by the US Department of Education International Education and Graduate Program Service, was created in 1992. The LMP is a unit of the UCLA Language Resource Center. Both the LMP and the UCLA Language Resource Center are affiliated with the UCLA International Institute.
